Taking Care of Your Engagement Ring

Engagement Ring care | Gear Jewellers

1. Insure your ring

One of the most significant initial steps after purchasing your engagement ring is to get the precious jewel insured. This ensures peace of mind for you and also prove useful if something happens to the ring.

We at Gear Jewellers fully understand how tough it must be to substitute your unique engagement ring,  and nobody intends to have their ring harmed, lost or taken, it's ideal to get it insured in case you unintentionally lose it or misplace it.

2. Schedule A professional cleaning

Gear Jewellers offers lifetime free cleaning services. We want you to enjoy the beautiful sparkle of your ring for a lifetime. Our ultrasonic cleaner is always on and ready to clean your ring whenever you call into us. Not only will your ring be steam-cleaned by an on-site jeweller, it can also be examined under magnification to make sure the prongs are secure, and to check for diamond fractures and loose stones.

Our Diamond Advisors recommend getting your Diamond rings professionally cleaned twice a year. This ensures that your precious engagement ring is structurally sound and stays sparkly like the day you first put it on.

3. MAKE SURE TO CLEAN YOUR RING OFTEN

Your diamonds will always sparkle as much as the day you got them, once they are kept clean.

We want to share the easiest way with you of how to get your Engagement Ring sparkling clean in the comfort of your home.

Step 1: Make a simple dish soap and lukewarm water mixture. Just a few drops of dish soap should be sufficient. We recommend a dish soap made with a minimal amount of chemicals.

Step 2: After making the mixture, soak your ring in the bowl and leave it for 15-20 minutes. Giving the soap solution enough time to soak into the ring ensures thorough removal of grime.

Step 3: The next step is to take the ring out of the solution and examine if there is still any grime or dust left behind. If that's the case, you will need to clean with a soft toothbrush to gently scrub with the bristles reaching the hard-to-reach parts of the ring.

Step 4: Rinse the ring in cold water and lay it out to dry on a clean cloth or paper towel. After gently brushing the ring and making sure there is no dust or grime buildup left, rinse the ring under a stream of cold water followed by drying it with a clean cloth or kitchen towel.

4. STAY AWAY FROM chemicals.

It might sound like a good idea to use household cleaners for cleaning all the dirt and grime on your ring; we strongly suggest steering clear of any chemicals as extended use of these harsh chemicals can scratch the metals and diminish sparkle of diamonds and gemstones.

In case you're searching for a more powerful cleaning agent than simple dish soap and water, it's recommended purchasing a cleaning solution from your nearest jeweller or even better, schedule a professional cleaning for your engagement ring.

Gear Jewellers offers a lifetime cleaning service for rings purchased from us. You will have the peace of mind that we have your best interests at heart.

5. DON'T WEAR YOUR RING EVERYWHERE

We know it could be challenging to keep your precious symbol of love away from yourself, it's essential to realize when to leave your ring at home.

Try not to wear your engagement ring in the gym, or while doing any work which involves heavy lifting as this could result in your ring getting deformed. Keep your ring in a protected spot and take it off while doing any exhausting exercises with your hands.

We strongly suggest avoiding wearing the ring to the ocean or the pool as your fingers shrink on continuous contact with water and exponentially increase the chance of losing your ring.
